St. Gilgen is a town full of history and stories. Its name was mentioned the first time at around 800 and has evolved through the centuries from being a small fishing town to becoming a popular holiday destination. Hints of Historic events and famous personalities are never far away as you wander the little streets.
St. Gilgen even has a special connection to Salzburg’s most famous son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. His sister Anna Maria named “Nannerl” was married here at Gasthof zur Post on the 23rd of August in 1784… Incidentally: You can also do a little time travel here at Gasthof zur Post: You will find many well- known names of the past centuries in our guest book.
